Created from a real road sign (like most of Aj Roi's works), this work is however profoundly different: the artist has in fact removed the colored reflective film, leaving at the seight only the dark gray paint covering the aluminum.
The work therefore appears dark and enigmatic, in total contrast to the bright colors and easy-to-read pictograms that distinguish the signs; this is a choice designed to remove importance from the visual component to shift attention towards the tactile level.
"Paradoxical Prohibition" is in fact the first work created to be touched, characterized by rows of dots in relief, created by the artist by hitting the back of the sign with a centre punch.


Just as visual signs cannot be understood by visually impaired people, in the same way, the dots in this work will be meaningless under the fingertips of sighted people.
The rows of dots, in fact, are the same sentence (in Italian above and in English below) written in Braille. The given sentence is
"VIETATO TOCCARE
DO NOT TOUCH":
a paradoxical prohibition, which we become aware of only by carrying out the action that the sign tells us not to do.


With this artwork, the author wants at the same time to make his ironic streak accessible to the visually impaired - who are usually excluded from being able to appreciate the fine arts - and to immerse the sighted people into a territory that is unfamiliar to them, to experience the confusion and uncertainty of those who interface with a reality based on an unpossessed sense, as well as rediscovering a sensorial universe often left in the background or sometimes forbidden.
